What I do.

Stonework, landscaping, plastering and general building across the Rossendale Valley. 30 years of it.

01

Stonework & walling

Drystone walling is what I cut my teeth on. Mortared garden walls, retaining walls, repointing old stonework, stone cladding for fireplaces and feature walls — all of it. The Rossendale Valley is built on gritstone and there's a right way to work with it. I've been doing it since 1996.

Typical jobs: garden walls, dividing walls, retaining walls on a slope, repointing a Victorian terrace, stone-clad fireplaces, chimney rebuilds.

02

Patios, flagging & drives

Large-format porcelain, Indian sandstone, flagstone, block paving, tarmac, gravel — whatever suits the property and the budget. A patio's only as good as what's underneath it, so the prep work matters more than the slabs. I don't cut corners on the base.

Typical jobs: full patio installs, replacement flags, block-paved drives, drainage fixes.

Recessed drain covers.

Where a manhole sits in the middle of a patio, the cover gets filled with matching slab so it disappears into the design. No raw cast iron in the middle of your patio. It's a small thing that takes a bit of extra work and most landscapers won't bother.

Fencing, decking & garden building

Closeboard fencing, post-and-rail, gates, raised decking, garden offices, sheds, outbuildings. Done properly so the wood doesn't twist out of shape after a Lancashire winter.

04

Plastering & rendering

Time-served plasterer. Skim coats, full re-plaster, dry-lining, rendering and pebble dash on outside walls, coving and decorative plasterwork, screed for floors. Inside and out.

05

Groundwork, drainage & general building

Drains, foundations, groundwork for extensions, demolition, post-construction tidy-ups. If you've got a job that doesn't fit neatly into a box, ring me — I've probably done one like it.

Behind the work

What’s under the slabs.

A patio’s only as good as what’s underneath it. Most of the time you’ll never see the work that matters — the foundations, the drainage, the bit where the slab meets the manhole. Done properly, you don’t notice it. Done wrong, you see it every winter.

Bigger projects

For larger jobs — extensions, full garden renovations, multi-trade work — I bring in lads I've worked with for years. Same standard of work, same way of doing things, but the team scales to fit the project.
